The American cornet player Buddy Bolden invented, or so the legend goes, that characteristic rhythm called “Big Four”, consisting of the accentuation of the fourth beat of a march, where every two measures the bass drum and the cymbal sound at the same time. And it is from this rhythm where the music of New Orleans is built and evolves, and for which Bolden is considered one of the fathers of Jazz. Unfortunately no recordings of him have survived, but it is said that all the cornetists of the time tried to imitate him for his rhythm, expressiveness, originality and personal sound, which would directly influence musicians following his generation such as Sidney Bechet, Joe Oliver, Freddie Keppard, Kid Ory or Jerry Roll Morton. This tradition would also be the one that would later lead Louis Armstrong and Lid Hardin to the forefront of jazz in the 1920s.
The band The Choco's Hot Seven brings Bolden's original sound live, the result of a work of "musical archaeology" at an aesthetic and instrumental level.
Composed of excellent musicians specialized in traditional jazz, and after this important research work and in-depth study of the style and the instruments that were used, The Choco's Hot Seven endorses the technical resources of the time. His music is rooted in Blues and RagTime, celebrates life in all its aspects and has managed to put a smile on everyone's face for decades.
