We enjoy the classics
When an artistic discipline, after the first beats and hesitations, reaches its fullness and maturity, it can generate some masterpieces, referential, which eventually become classics. Modern sardana began this period of maturity around the turn of the twentieth century.
Among the many composers who have since expanded the corpus of cobla music, we have played fifteen exceptional and unique sardanas to record. The ensemble is a sample of the creativity, exigency, risk, rigor and sensitivity of fifteen different composers over just over a hundred years (La pubilla empordanesa, from 1902, is the oldest; Twelve chandeliers, from 2006, the most recent).
Obviously (and thankfully!), We had to exclude from this recording
many authors and many sardanas that we also love and claim.
It is for this reason that this album is only the first volume of a collection that will recover and review the great classics of the sardana, masterpieces of music for cobla (and, therefore, of Catalan music) that they have not always been sufficiently divulged and are certainly not sufficiently well known.
For any cobla musician in love with his craft, recording a collection of fifteen of the best sardanas ever written is, at the same time, an enormous pleasure, a challenge and a responsibility. The musicians of the Cobla Sant Jordi will consider ourselves well paid if we can pass on to those who listen to it a part of the emotions that arouse in all of us this music that we are so passionate about.
