The Xahu quartet, living up to its name, loves and interprets jazz in its purest form. Both in their rehearsals and in those live shows that the damn pandemic stopped for too long, they always express themselves freely, elegantly and in a warm atmosphere of complicity. In the manner of the great Jazz improvisers, they are not afraid of what the future holds, they are always fresh and natural and now that artists and audiences are approaching the stage again with renewed energy, they give us this wonderful debut album.
Whether in their own compositions or cover versions of classics and following in the footsteps of bands like Jazz Messengers or Brian Blade & The Fellowship, over the years they have amassed an estimable repertoire of Be-Bop, Hard-Bop and, in essence, pure Jazz. Thus, in April 2021 they made a selection of 11 songs and recorded this “Gero, Gerokoak” (“Come what may come”).
The quartet is made up of the saxophonist Josu Salegi; Mikel Nuñez on piano; Jon Ander Amigo on electric bass; and finally Unai Olabarri Varela on drums.
