Kiss me a lot, Consuelo Velázquez’s legendary bolero gives the title to this new Blau Records production. Mexico and the USA hand in hand once again showing there is no wall that will let the music die!
It is certainly not difficult to fall in love with the sound, the phrasing, the accentuation, the swing of the saxophonist from Providence (RI,USA); and providential indeed is his expressive playing, and his swing -as if notes were chewing gum, stretched and then compressed just to his liking, and then surfing gracefully over the rhythm section- it’s magisterial. Hamilton also uses the art of silence beautifully; the pause, the melodic rest, as nobody else.
This CD is the recording of a concert held at the Jamboree Jazz Club in Barcelona in December 2010. It could be considered as the second part of the successful Live in Barcelona. It was recorded live then, providing the added value of authenticity and showing the true and full dimensions of music and musicians. This recording on the initiative of Ignasi González landed with Blau Records, whose faithfulness to Hamilton and devotion to high quality music made it its’ natural home. Once you hear it you will surely feel it was worth the wait.
Reliable and experienced musicians -Gerard Nieto, piano, Ignasi González, double bass and Esteve Pi, drums- joined Scott Hamilton in the gig. Their creativity, both individually and jointly, build up an auspicious sound allowing Hamilton’s sax to grow and expand to full satisfaction and in which they too leave their mark in brilliant solo interventions.
Six titles make up this album: I Just Found Out About Love, a midtime swing classic Bésame Mucho, Consuelo Velázquez's classic bolero; You Don’t Know Me, a ballad by Ray Charles; Loose Walk, a well-known blues; That's All, one of the first ballads in Scott Hamilton’s early recordings; and Estate, Bruno Martino's ballad acclaimed by the jazz community as a standard jazz in the form of bossanova.
