The album "33 Renaissance Pieces" is one of the Duo New Renaissance's most outstanding recordings.
The album is an anthology of short pieces originally composed between the 16th and 17th centuries. The duo selects dances, madrigals, and popular songs from the period and gives them a new instrumental interpretation.
The repertoire includes European Renaissance masters such as Thoinot Arbeau, Hans Neusidler, Tielman Susato, and Giovanni Zanetti. Since these pieces were originally written for lute, vihuela, or vocal ensembles, the duo undertakes a process of transcription. The violin takes on the more lyrical melodic lines, while the classical guitar provides polyphonic richness and harmonic support.
Although they use modern instruments, they maintain an interpretation that respects the spirit of the era (the lightness of the dances, the melancholy of the pavanes), but with contemporary brilliance and acoustic projection.
The Duo New Renaissance consists of Italian violinist Laura Bianco and Catalan guitarist Eduard V. Agulló.
