"The Hills Have Eyes" is a 1977 American horror film written, directed, and edited by Wes Craven. The film follows the Carters, a suburban family targeted by a family of cannibal savages after becoming stranded in the Nevada desert. Made for only $230,000, the film has spawned may sequels and remakes and has gone o to become a cult classic.

Composer Don Peake has recently revisited his score and this vinyl release presents the newly discovered and remastered original tapes from the film.

He remembers his work on the score and how this remarkable soundtrack was created –

“I was immediately struck with the brutality of the characters, and I decided to create a sparse, and disturbing score utilizing both acoustic instruments and a few experimental electronic instruments. I used “The Blaster Beam” - a long aluminium channel (About 10 feet) strung with a single wire. The Player (Craig Huxley) would slide a piece of steel up the wire string creating a long Glissando. I also had the prop master deliver the bone necklaces that the actors wore in the movie to the scoring stage. I used these bones as shakers for the chase scenes. The percussionists each had a necklace to play.
We recorded all the music “Live” with absolutely no overdubs. The tapes had been lost for many years. I just recently came upon them in my storage. I had my friend Ron Hitchcock “bake” the tapes for 10 hours, and then transferred them into the Pro Tools digital format. This is the very first time that this music has been available to listen to.”

Prolific and multitalented composer, musician & record producer Don Peake started his music career in 1961 as the lead guitarist for The Everly Brothers and played guitar for ten years in the Ray Charles Orchestra.
Don played guitar on Phil Spector’s Righteous Brothers hit “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling,” Ike and Tina Turner’s “River Deep, Mountain High” and the Jackson Five’s hit song “ABC” to name just a few.
He worked as an arranger for such artists as Roy Orbison, The Monkees, Wayne Newton, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Sonny and Cher, John Lennon, The Beach Boys, Diana Ross and many, many more.
Don was a respected staff guitarist at Motown Records.
