"Green with envy" was the second release by Santiago de Compostela guitarist Valentin Caamaño released under the Free Code Records label in 2017.
There is no doubt about the admiration that Valentín Caamaño feels for the master and guitarist Grant Green. “Green With Envy” is the title of the tribute that serves as an offering to him and is a composition belonging to the 1961 album, Green Street, on the Blue Note label that the maestro also recorded as a trio together with bassist Ben Tucker and drummer Dave Bailey ; moreover, even the aesthetic of the Green With Envy cover bears similarities to Green Street.
Valentín Caamaño shows and demonstrates with simplicity and mastery in eight tracks that he is capable of bringing the past to the present in a most pleasant sound journey, that be-bop is very much alive and that it is not just a museum piece.
Listening to his music blindly without knowing who the author is leads us to understand with some ease what jazz was like at a certain moment in history and how that same jazz is very present today. (Enrique Farelo)
