This famous ensemble from Empordà (Girona, Catalonia) was created in 1888 in the city of Bisbal d'Empordà, collecting the vitality and experience of the oldest coblas (a traditional music ensemble of Catalonia, not to be confused with 'copla').
It has been awarded in all the contests in which it has taken part. It is worth mentioning, above all, the prizes obtained in the contests of Barcelona (1892,1909), Girona (1906,1912,1916) and Sant Feliu de Guíxols (1932). The latter earned him the title of Official Cobla of the Generalitat of Catalonia, which was restored to him on September 8, 1978 through an Order of President Josep Tarradellas.
La Principal de la Bisbal is considered, for now, as the first cobla in Catalonia, and one of its most prestigious institutions.
In this new work "Concert liric" published for its 130th anniversary, the Principal de la Bisbal aims to reflect the best of both Catalan and international music, in the artistic demands of their instrumental soloists and the careful interpretations of their singers.
It includes such emblematic songs as "New York, New York", "Tico Tico", "Nessum dorma" or "Alfonsina and the Sea" among others.
