L’orgue del Palau (relanz.)
CLASSICAL / CONTEMPORARY
COLUMNA MUSICA (COM0380 02)
The organ of the Palau de la Música Catalanai it was built between 1906 and 1908 by the Walcker firm from Ludwigsburg (Germany), one of the most prestigious organ building companies of the time, commissioned by the Orfeó Català, the owner of the Palau de la Música Catalana.
It is an historical organ, unique in our country and quite rare in Central and Northern Europe -where many similar instruments have been destroyed by wars or have been replaced by completely new organs-. The prestigious organ builder, Gerhard Grenzing, to whom the new restoration of the organ has been entrusted, has set out to recover, with the utmost accuracy, the original sonority and technical features of the instrument, according to the most prevailing tendencies in organ building in recent years.
In these CDs, we can hear the two works, composed in the first half of the twentieth century, which were selected to exploit and highlight to the maximum the possibilities of the leading instrument, with a much achieved balance between lightness and solemnity, and of outstanding elegance.
