Pop-rock by bands like Els Pets, Lax'n'Busto, Brams, Whiskyn’s, Antònia Font, Els Amics de les Arts, Manel, Mishima, Txarango o Trau, singer-songwriters such as Joan Bibiloni or Tomeu Penya, jazz by Tete Montoliu or La Vella Dixieland, contemporary flamenco by Miguel Poveda, great lyric singers as José Carreras, Jaime Aragall or Juan Pons, avant-garde by Pascal Comelade, the sound of traditional “cobla” updated by Cobla Sant Jordi – Ciutat de Barcelona playing solo or collaborating with Pascal Comelade, Niño Josele or the ensemble Coses, the music for children by the collection Poti-Poti or the band Macedònia, along with tons of artists are the lead of the record company Discmedi, whom since 1989 has shared with all music lovers this passion for music for over more than 25 years.
More than 5,000 album titles of the most diverse musical styles are the heritage of this company, witnessing and being responsible for instituting a musical cultural production of immense value.
This production clearly reflects the task Discmedi has made in support of music in general, with special attention and care to the creators and artists from Catalonia.
At the same time it has developed an intense activity by distributing productions of other Catalan labels, as Salseta Discos, Star Music, Claus Records, Mas i Mas Records, etc.. in all 80 labels, and Spanish labels too. It holds the exclusive representation for various European countries, of prestigious international labels such as Alligator (blues) (USA), Silva Screen (soundtracks) (UK), among others. Currently, Discmedi’s catalog is one of the most important of the Spanish independent labels.
It’s important to remark the international acknowledgment achieved by Discmedi with three Grammy nominations for productions like Cuba le Canta a Serrat, Famila Compay Segundo or Miguel Poveda This cosmopolitan presence has been strengthened with the participation, since 1991, in the most important record trade exhibitions in the world: Midem, Popkomm, Womex, London Calling, South By Southwest, Strictly Mundial or Cubadisco.
Discmedi understood the coming changes in the music industry and in 2009 it was adapted to new technologies, boosting legal and regularized digital distribution activity which has been maintained and expanded until today.
The future of the cultural music industry and Discmedi are bound to have an effective legal framework and recognition, helping to continue as the primary driver of musical creation.
