The Russian school has left an indelible mark on the history of music. In the 20th century, the figure of the cellist Mtislav Rostropovich was of utmost importance as he was one of the greatest exponents who would create the foundations of his own style. It reflects a part of the tradition of the Russian school, influenced by the Soviet spirit, especially in the impetus of the performances and in the treatment of the bow and sound. A large number of composers from around the world have written works for him, including Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Kachaturian, Britten, Halffter, Lutoslavski, Dutilleux, etc.
In this album, full of vitality and freshness, Gabriel Ureña (cello) and Patxi Aizpiri (piano) present us with a repertoire of the most emblematic of the genre. The recording, of great sound beauty, reflects the necessary interpretive maturity to face a repertoire of unquestionable technical demands. Gabriel Ureña and Patxi Aizpiri reach an interpretation that borders on vocal lyricism in their melodic lines, as well as a technical mastery of the instrument that is clearly evident in relation to the musicality and concept of sound. Without a doubt, this record work is a benchmark in chamber music for cello and piano.
